Needs analyses

Before embarking on the development of any digital learning, we recommend undertaking a needs analysis. A needs analysis will consider why you want to develop an individual digital learning resource and how it can be best developed to meet those needs.

The outcome of a needs analyses will be a digital learning resource project brief outlining such recommendations as:

  • the aims of the resource (for example, a resource might ensure staff are all abreast of a new product line but also provide you with the opportunity to gather staff thoughts on the new products)
  • the learning outcomes
  • content (including videos, static imagery and interactive activities)
  • references
  • assessment, if required
  • proposed software/virtual learning environment
  • proposed budget.

A learning needs analyses will more clearly define the parameters within which your project should be managed.
